Regardless of the medium of transportation, it is reasonably straightforward to travel in Etobicoke. Etobicoke is a fairly pleasant part of Toronto for pedestrians; most day-to-day needs are easy to meet by walking. It is a reasonably short drive to the closest highway, such as F G Gardiner Expressway, from anywhere in this part of the city, and coming across a place to park is quite easy.

In Etobicoke, families will usually be able to access daycares and schools on foot. Regarding food, it is easy to get to the nearest grocery store on foot in this former municipality. In addition, those who like to dine in restaurants will have a good number of opportunities, and a small selection of coffee shops is available as well.

The character of Etobicoke is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. Greenery is prominent in this part of the city as there are numerous tree-lined streets. There are over 350 public green spaces nearby for residents to unwind in, such as West Humber Parkland and West Deane Park, resulting in them being very easy to get to from most locations within this part of the city. Most areas in this former municipality are reasonably quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - however some areas can be quite loud, especially closer to the airport (YYZ), Highway 407, Queen Elizabeth Way or one of the railway lines.

In Etobicoke, about 40% of buildings are large apartment buildings, whereas the rest are mainly single detached homes. About one third of properties in this former municipality were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 2000s. This part of the city has a good variety of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About 60% of the dwellings in the former municipality are occupied by homeowners and 40% are rented.
