North York

Part of the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, North York is a former municipality within Toronto, Ontario.

Transportation

North York will appeal to homeowners that use a variety of methods of transportation. Owing to plenty of rapid transit stations on the Sheppard Line, blue | VIVA BLUE and Yonge - University Line, and over 100 nearby bus lines, North York is transit friendly. Physically active house buyers will also enjoy the reasonably walk-friendly nature of this former municipality; running daily errands is easy, and plenty of businesses are reasonably nearby. This area is not very cycling-friendly because the bicycling infrastructure is rather poor, and bicycle riders are faced with a considerable amount of elevation changes.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a reasonably short walk away in this area. Likewise, this part of the city is a good place in which to eat out, and property owners benefit from over 150 cafes as well. Regarding education, in this area, families will usually be able to access daycares and schools by walking.

Character

The character of North York is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. This part of the city is quiet overall, as the streets are generally quite tranquil - although that is not the case close to Don Valley Parkway, Highway 400, one of the railway lines or the airport (YZD). Finally, greenery is present in this area as the tree canopy coverage for most streets is good. There are over 500 public green spaces nearby for residents to relax in, including West Humber Parkland and Charles Sauriol Conservation Area, which makes it very easy to access them from most locations within the former municipality.

Housing

In North York, about half of dwellings are large apartment buildings, while small apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. This area offers mainly three bedroom and two bedroom homes. The split between homeowners and renters is about even. Roughly 40% of homes in this part of Toronto were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s.
