North York

The former municipality of North York is part of the city of Toronto, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

No matter the mode of transportation, it is convenient to get around in North York. Commuting by public transit is easy in this area as a consequence of plenty of rapid transit stations on the Viva Blue, Line 4 (Sheppard) and Line 1 (Yonge-University), and over 100 nearby bus lines. It is also convenient for people travelling on foot to navigate North York; many common errands can be run without needing to resort to a car, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Biking is convenient in North York.

Services

In North York, families will usually be able to reach daycares and schools on foot. Parents are served by public and private schools at both the elementary and high school level. In terms of food, it is straightforward to reach the closest supermarket on foot in North York. In addition, this part of the city is a fairly good place in which to eat out, and home buyers can enjoy over 150 cafes as well.

Character

North York is a good former municipality to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. Greenery is quite prominent in this part of the city as most streets have good tree coverage. There are over 700 public green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, such as East Don Parkland and Charles Sauriol Conservation Area, and they are very well-situated, which makes it very easy to reach them. The noise levels in this former municipality are also reasonably low, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although there are still several louder areas, especially around one of the 2 airports (Downsview Airport,Toronto (Sunnybrook Medical Centre) Heliport), one of the railway lines, Don Valley Parkway or Highway 400.

Housing

Large apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing about half of dwellings in North York, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings and single detached homes. This area is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. The proportions of renters and homeowners are about even. Roughly one third of homes in this former municipality were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s.
