Transportation

No matter the mode of transportation, it is reasonably straightforward to move around in this part of Toronto. The fairly good public transit infrastructure allows people to get to many destinations without needing a car owing to 2 rapid transit stations (York Mills Station - Southbound Platform and York Mills Station - Northbound Platform) on the Line 1 (Yonge-University), and about 20 nearby bus lines. This part of the city is also quite conducive to walking; many day-to-day needs can be met without having to resort to a car, and plenty of businesses are close by. Biking is challenging in this area since the topography is not especially flat, and the cycling infrastructure is fairly poor. Nevertheless, biking is more practical in some pockets than others.

Services

The closest grocery store in this area is generally only a rather short walk away. Likewise, those who like to dine in restaurants will have a good number of opportunities, and a small selection of coffee shops can be found as well. With respect to education, parents and their children will welcome the proximity to daycares and schools, which are within walking distance from most properties for sale in this part of the city. Along with public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools.

Character

There are a lot of green spaces to enjoy in St.Andrew-Windfields, as well as some areas with a vibrant feel. To be more specific, most locations within the neighbourhood have reasonably good access to public green spaces, such as Moatfield Farm Park and Vyner Greenbelt, since there are around 30 of them nearby for residents to discover. Lastly, thanks to the presence of few people out and about on the streets, this part of the city is relatively quiet; however there can be higher levels of noise for those who are near the railway line or Highway 401.

Housing

In St.Andrew-Windfields, about half of dwellings are single detached homes, and the remaining houses are mainly large apartment buildings. About 45% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1990s.
