West Rouge

West Rouge is a neighbourhood within Toronto, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

West Rouge benefits from a good public transit system. Train stations, including the Rouge Hill Station with access to the Lakeshore East Line, are not particularly far from most houses in the neighbourhood. There are a few bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are typically nearby. However, West Rouge is not very conducive to cycling since cyclists encounter a considerable amount of slopes, and the bicycling network is rather poor. Travelling on foot is not especially practical for residents in this neighbourhood as daily errands are at times difficult to run without the use of a vehicle. However, West Rouge is especially car friendly. The majority of homes for sale are a rather short drive from the nearest highway, such as Highway 401, and finding a place to park is easy.

West Rouge is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced ambience. This part of Toronto is quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, the greenery in this area is prominent; there are around 10 parks nearby for residents to enjoy, including Rouge Park and Port Union Waterfront Park, and they are especially well-distributed, making it very easy to get to them. Residents will also find that the majority of streets have good tree coverage.

Housing

In West Rouge, roughly 85% of dwellings are single detached homes, while the rest are mainly townhouses. Around one third of homes in this part of Toronto were constructed between 1980 and 1990, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy nearly 95% of the units in West Rouge whereas the rest are rented.
