Port Union

Part of the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Port Union is a neighbourhood within Toronto, Ontario.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in Port Union. It is very easy to park, and most real estate listings are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, such as Highway 401. The public transit service in Port Union is also good by reason of a few nearby bus lines. Walking is not especially feasible for property owners in this part of Toronto because common amenities such as barbers or hardware stores can be an occasionally long walk away. Moving around by bicycle is also sometimes challenging in this neighbourhood because the cycling network is not very comprehensive, and cyclists are faced with a considerable amount of slopes.

Services

The nearest supermarket in Port Union is generally only a rather short walk away. Residents are served by a few restaurants and cafes as well. As far as education is concerned, in this neighbourhood, parents and their kids will typically be able to get to both primary and secondary schools by walking. However, there are only a few daycares and consequently they can be an extended walk away.

Character

The character of Port Union is exemplified by its relaxed environment. Greenery is quite present in this area; getting to green spaces in the neighbourhood, including Lower Highland Creek and Colonel Danforth Park, is very easy since there are about 20 of them nearby for residents to check out. Moreover, residents will find that the tree canopy coverage for the majority of streets is reasonably good. This area is also quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several louder sections, especially close to Highway 401 or the railway line.

Housing

Single detached homes and townhouses are the main housing type in Port Union. About half of properties in this part of Toronto were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1980s and the 1990s. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Nearly 95% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas the remainder are renters.
