West Shore is a neighbourhood within Pickering, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

This neighbourhood is especially car friendly. Most properties for sale are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 401, and it is convenient to access a place to park. On the other hand, the public transit service in this part of Pickering is not very frequent. Nonetheless, house owners benefit from a few bus lines, and it is very convenient to get to a nearby bus stop from most properties. This area is moderately bike-friendly. Walking is not particularly practical for property owners in West Shore since most daily needs are at times challenging to carry out without a vehicle.

Services

Some, but not all, property owners in West Shore will live within walking distance of the nearest grocery store. There are also a limited number of opportunities for those who appreciate nearby restaurants. When it comes to education, in this part of the city, parents and their children will almost always be able to get to primary schools and daycares by walking. However, there are no high schools in West Shore.

Character

The character of West Shore is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. This neighbourhood is very quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - however some areas can be quite loud, especially close to one of the railway lines or Highway 401. Finally, although West Shore is not home to any parks, parks aren't well-distributed in nearby neighbourhoods, which makes it easy to reach them.

Housing

Single detached homes are the main housing type, representing the majority of dwellings in West Shore, and the remainder are mainly duplexes. This part of the city is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 90% of the properties in West Shore and the remainder are rented. This part of Pickering experienced its largest building boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available homes are from this time period.
