Otter Lake

The community of Otter Lake can be found in the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Driving is a great transportation option in Otter Lake. It is very convenient to park, and nearby highways are very easy to access from anywhere in Otter Lake. This part of the municipality is not very conducive to walking because very few day-to-day errands can be run on foot. Cycling is also at times challenging in Otter Lake because there are very few bike lanes. Thankfully, cyclists do not face serious elevation changes.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of Halifax. Furthermore, there are only a very small number of daycares and accordingly they can be a very long walk away. With regards to eating, a portion of house buyers in this part of the municipality may be able to travel to the nearest supermarket on foot, while others will have to turn to another means of transportation.

Character

There is a great variety of green spaces in Otter Lake. Getting to green spaces, like Western Commons, is easy from numerous locations in the community since there are approximately 20 of them nearby for residents to unwind in. Lastly, this part of the municipality is relatively calm, due to the presence of very few people out and about on the streets.

Housing

In Otter Lake, about two thirds of buildings are single detached homes, while mobile homes are also present in the housing stock. This area offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around 90% of the population of this community own their home and renters make up the remainder. This area did not experience a single construction boom; the construction of new buildings in Otter Lake was spread throughout multiple decades in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
