Lochdale

The neighbourhood of Lochdale is part of the city of Burnaby, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is often the best approach to move around in Lochdale. It is convenient to park. In contrast, the public transit service in this part of the city is somewhat poor. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and it is very convenient to reach a nearby bus stop from most houses. Even though there are a fair number of bike lanes, the bicycle is a sometimes poor method of transportation in Lochdale as riding is made arduous by the often steep area. Many of the homes for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are also not particularly conducive to walking as few common errands can be run without having to use a car.

Services

Daycares and primary schools are convenient to walk to from most homes for sale in Lochdale. In contrast, Lochdale does not contain any high schools. Concerning eating, some, but not all, property owners in this part of the city will reside within walking distance of the nearest grocery store. A limited variety of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well.

Character

Lochdale is a very good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. There are around 10 parks nearby for residents to check out, including Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area, and they are very well-distributed, which makes them very easy to get to. This neighbourhood is also very quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing around 45% of dwellings in Lochdale, but duplexes and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This part of Burnaby also has quite a good choice of unit sizes - there is a higher proportion of four or more bedroom homes in this neighbourhood. Homeowners occupy roughly 70% of the properties in Lochdale and 30% are rented. Around 40% of homes in this neighbourhood were built between 1960 and 1980, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
