Brompton

Part of the Greater Sherbrooke metropolitan area, Brompton is a borough within Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Transportation

Brompton is an extraordinarily convenient part of Sherbrooke for driving. Most homes for sale are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, such as Autoroute des Cantons-de-l'Est, and coming across a place to park is easy. However, Brompton is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, the borough is linked by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most properties. Commuting by bicycle is sometimes challenging in Brompton as the bicycling network is fairly poor, and cyclists encounter a significant amount of elevation changes. Nevertheless, biking is better in some sectors than others. It is also impractical for pedestrians to navigate Brompton because very few common errands can be run on foot.

Services

Both primary and secondary schools are convenient to access on foot from anywhere in Brompton. In contrast, there are only a few daycares and therefore they can be an extended walk away. Regarding food, reaching the nearest supermarket on foot is practical for some, but not all, home buyers in Brompton. There are also a few restaurants in Brompton.

Character

People who prefer a calm environment will enjoy Brompton. There are a few parks close by for residents to relax in, making them easy to access. The noise levels in this area are also quite low, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several louder sections, especially near Autoroute des Cantons-de-l'Est, Autoroute Joseph-Armand-Bombardier or the railway line.

Housing

In Brompton, about two thirds of dwellings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This borough is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 70% of the population of this borough own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. Roughly one quarter of properties in this part of Sherbrooke were built following the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
