Lachine

The borough of Lachine can be found in the city of Montréal, Quebec, which is situated in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

Getting around by car is straightforward in Lachine. Accessing a place to park is easy, and many real estate listings are a short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Autoroute de la Côte-de-Liesse. This borough is also quite transit friendly. In particular, house owners are served by the Gare Du Canal and Gare Lachine with access to the Candiac Line and Vaudreuil-Hudson Line. Homeowners benefit from around 10 bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily nearby. There are relatively few pedestrians out on the streets of Lachine, despite the fact that many day-to-day errands can be run on foot. It is also sometimes difficult to get around by bike in this part of Montréal as the bicycling infrastructure is rather limited. Thankfully, there are few elevation changes to confront cyclists, and certain pleasant sectors for cycling exist.

Services

It is generally an option for home buyers in this part of the city to buy their groceries on foot. There are also a limited number of opportunities for those who appreciate restaurants and cafes in close proximity. Regarding education, in Lachine, families will usually be able to get to schools and daycares by walking.

Character

One of the highlights of Lachine is its wide variety of green spaces. To be more precise, a large number of locations in the borough have reasonably good access to public green spaces, including Parc René-Lévesque, since there are over 50 of them nearby for residents to explore and the majority of properties have a park very close by. Lastly, thanks to the presence of few pedestrians, this part of Montréal is relatively quiet, although there can be more noise for those who are near Autoroute de la Côte-de-Liesse, Autoroute Chomedey or one of the railway lines.

Housing

The homes in this borough are quite old, because around 45% of its buildings were constructed pre-1960, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 2000s. Small apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing most dwellings in this part of the city, while the remainder are mainly duplexes and single detached homes. About 55% of the properties in the borough are occupied by renters and 45% are occupied by owners. This borough is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes.
