Saint-Laurent

Saint-Laurent is a borough within Montréal, Quebec, which is located in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

Travelling by car is very easy in this area. The majority of real estate listings are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Autoroute Décarie, and coming across a parking spot is generally easy. Saint-Laurent is also quite transit friendly. Homeowners can rely on Côte-Vertu Station and Du Collège Station on the Orange Line. Residents are served by around 40 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most residences. Despite the fact that biking is more practical in certain pockets than others, and it is a flat ride to most locations, cycling is sometimes challenging in this borough because the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive. Walking in Saint-Laurent is also not very common, although many daily needs can be met on foot.

Services

Primary schools and daycares are convenient to get to on foot from any location in Saint-Laurent. On the other hand, parents and their children may find it challenging to access high schools as a pedestrian. When it comes to eating, it is convenient to reach the nearest grocery store on foot in this part of the city. There are also a limited number of options for those who appreciate nearby restaurants and cafes.

Character

There is a great variety of green spaces in Saint-Laurent. To be more specific, green spaces, including Parc-Nature du Bois-de-Liesse, are very well-situated and there are over 100 of them close by for residents to discover, making it easy to reach them. However, the tree canopy coverage for most streets is below average. Finally, this part of the city is relatively quiet, since there are few pedestrians, although noise levels are higher closer to Autoroute Décarie, Autoroute de la Côte-de-Liesse, one of the railway lines or the airport (YUL).

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing around one third of buildings in Saint-Laurent, and the rest of the dwellings are mainly large apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses. Roughly 30% of properties in this part of the city were built between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This area also has a good choice of housing size options; properties range from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The split between renters and homeowners is about even.
