York

The former municipality of York can be found in the city of Toronto, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

This part of Toronto allows home buyers to move around by a diversity of methods of transportation. The very good public transit access allows people to get to many destinations without needing a vehicle. Commuters can rely on Eglinton West Station - Southbound Platform, Eglinton West Station - Northbound Platform and Jane Station - Westbound Platform on the Line 1 (Yonge-University) and Line 2 (Bloor - Danforth). House owners are served by the Weston GO Station and Weston on the Kitchener and Union Pearson Express. There are around 40 bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically very close. York is also a fairly pleasant part of Toronto for pedestrians; many daily needs can be met by walking, and various businesses are quite nearby. York is amenable to bicycling.

Services

Parents and their schoolchildren will find that wherever their home is located in York, schools and daycares are nearby. Besides public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools. As far as food is concerned, a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a rather short walk away in York. Over 50 supermarkets are located close by, and the best variety can be found on streets such as St Clair Avenue. Residents are served by over 300 restaurants and cafes as well.

Character

York offers a slower-paced atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. This area is quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case around Highway 400, Highway 401 or one of the railway lines. Finally, greenery is reasonably prominent in this part of Toronto as there are numerous tree-lined streets. Getting to public green spaces in the former municipality, like Keelesdale North Park and Scarlett Woods Golf Course, is very easy, since there are over 150 of them close by for residents to check out, including Ontario Hydro Lands and Coronation Park - York.

Housing

In York, around 30% of buildings are single detached homes, and the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and townhouses. About half of properties in this area were constructed prior to the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s. This former municipality is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. The split between renters and homeowners is about even.
