Cumberland

The neighbourhood of Cumberland is part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, which is located in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cumberland is an extraordinarily good part of Ottawa for moving around by car. It is very easy to park. On the other hand, travelling by public transit is very difficult in Cumberland. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines, and it is easy to get to a nearby bus stop from most properties. It is very inconvenient for pedestrians to move around in Cumberland because running common errands is very impractical. Bicycling is also challenging in Cumberland because there are a good number of elevation changes, and the cycling infrastructure is quite bad.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of Ottawa. Moreover, it can be very difficult to get to daycares on foot. With respect to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed to do groceries.

Character

Cumberland is very quiet overall, as the streets are generally very tranquil. Parks are sparse, which results in them being rather difficult to reach from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood. Still, there are a few green spaces close by for residents to enjoy, such as Cardinal Creek Valley and Wilfred Murray Park.

Housing

Cumberland did not experience a single building boom; the construction of new dwellings in Cumberland was spread throughout several decades in the twentieth and twenty-first century. Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in this part of the city. Roughly 90% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 10% are rented. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
