Stoney Creek

Stoney Creek is a former municipality within Hamilton, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Stoney Creek is an extraordinarily good part of Hamilton for moving around by car. Coming across a place to park is quite easy. On the other hand, residents using public transit may have very limited options in Stoney Creek as a result of the service's low frequency. Nevertheless, there are around 10 bus lines crossing the former municipality, and bus stops are usually relatively close by. It is challenging for pedestrians to move around in this part of the city as meeting daily needs is difficult. Stoney Creek is also not very bicycling-friendly since the area is not especially flat, and the cycling infrastructure is not very extensive.

Services

Accessing one of about 20 supermarkets on foot is an option for some, but not all, property owners in Stoney Creek. A limited variety of restaurants and coffee shops is available as well. With regards to education, parents and their schoolchildren will appreciate that no matter where their property is located in this area, primary schools are close by. In contrast, it can be challenging to get to high schools on foot.

Character

The character of Stoney Creek is exemplified by its calm environment. There are over 150 parks nearby for residents to explore, including Sherwood Park and Escarpment Ward 5, making them easy to get to. This area is also good for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - however some areas can be quite loud, especially close to Queen Elizabeth Way, Red Hill Valley Parkway or one of the railway lines.

Housing

The housing stock of Stoney Creek is composed primarily of single detached homes and row houses. About 30% of homes in this former municipality were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Hamilton is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around 80% of the dwellings in the former municipality are occupied by homeowners while the remainder are rented.
