Hornby

Part of the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Hornby is a neighbourhood within Halton Hills, Ontario.

Transportation

The car is very often the favoured approach to navigate Hornby. The majority of homes for sale are a reasonably short drive from the nearest highway, such as Highway 401, and it is especially convenient to access a parking spot. On the other hand, this part of the town is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, house owners benefit from a few bus lines, and most homes are near a bus stop. Walking is not very feasible for property owners in Hornby as running daily errands is difficult on foot. Even though cycling is better in some sectors than others, and residents often choose to move around by bike, Hornby is also not very appropriate for biking since the bicycling network is not very well-developed, and there are a good number of elevation changes for cyclists to brave.

Services

Hornby does not have any high schools or primary schools. Likewise, families may consider it very hard for their children to reach daycares on foot. As far as eating is concerned, some, but not all, property owners in Hornby will live within walking distance of the closest supermarket. There are a few opportunities for those who value restaurants and cafes in close proximity.

Character

Hornby is fairly good for those who enjoy quiet surroundings, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case closer to Highway 401. Green spaces aren't well-distributed, which makes it occasionally hard to access them. Despite that, there are about 30 parks close by for residents to relax in.

Housing

Around 45% of homes in Hornby were constructed between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. Homeowners occupy about 80% of the units in Hornby and 20% are rented. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
