Central is a neighbourhood within Hamilton, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area.

Transportation

No matter the means of transportation, it is very simple to travel in Central. The very good transit allows people to get to many destinations without needing a car. More specifically, train stations, including the West Harbour on the Lakeshore West, are not very far-removed from the greater part of properties in the neighbourhood. There are about 30 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. Central will also appeal to people who value residing in a walkable area as it is very geared towards walking; running day-to-day errands is convenient without the use of a car, and many businesses are moderately close at hand. Riding a bicycle is moderately common in Central because the cycling network is fairly comprehensive, and bike-share stations are hardly ever more than a few blocks away.

Regarding eating, a supermarket is typically reachable within a very short walk from most homes for sale in this area. Likewise, there is typically a restaurant or cafe in close proximity, for instance along James Street. It is also a reasonably short distance to a decent choice of clothing stores.

Character

Central offers an extensive selection of green spaces to enjoy, as well as some areas with a vibrant feel. It is very easy to reach public green spaces from many locations in the neighbourhood since there are a few of them close by for residents to relax in. Finally, a good portion of Central is quite quiet, however noise can be bothersome around one of the railway lines.

Housing

In Central, the majority of dwellings are large apartment buildings, while small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This part of Hamilton is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. Around three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home while the rest are owners. Around one third of properties in this neighbourhood were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 2000s.
