Transportation

Cars are a great transportation option in Shearwater. Accessing a place to park is quite easy. However, Shearwater is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and most houses are close to a bus stop. It is very challenging for people walking to get around in this part of Halifax as very few daily needs can be carried out on foot.

Services

This neighbourhood does not have any high schools or primary schools. Moreover, parents may find it very difficult for their children to reach daycares as a pedestrian. When it comes to food, property owners in this area almost always have to use a car to travel to the closest supermarket. Residents can enjoy a few cafes.

Character

Shearwater is relatively calm, thanks to the presence of very few people out and about on the streets. Parks aren't well-spread out, resulting in them being rather difficult to reach from most locations in this part of Halifax. Still, there are a few public green spaces nearby for residents to discover.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing roughly 30% of dwellings in Shearwater, and the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. The proportions of homeowners and renters are about even. This part of the municipality experienced its biggest construction boom after the year 2000, so most of the available housing stock is from this era.
