Onslow

Onslow is a community within Colchester Subdivision B, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Truro metropolitan area.

Transportation

Onslow is very car friendly. Nearby highways, such as Highway 104, are rather easy to drive to from any location in this area, and it is very convenient to access a place to park. Getting around by walking is not very feasible for property owners in this community because many day-to-day needs are difficult to meet without the use of a car. It is also very difficult to commute by bike in Onslow since the cycling network is quite poor, and there are a fair number of elevation changes for cyclists to brave.

Services

There are only a very small number of high schools in Onslow and therefore they can be a very long trip away. Likewise, this area does not have any primary schools. With regards to eating, it is very rarely practical for home buyers in this part of the subdivision of a county municipality to reach the nearest supermarket on foot.

Character

The character of Onslow is exemplified by its calm atmosphere. Onslow is good for those who need quiet surroundings, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case around Highway 104 or the railway line.

Housing

Around 80% of the population of this community own their home and 20% are renters. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. About 30% of properties in this community were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Colchester Subdivision B is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
