North Street

North Street is a neighbourhood in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

North Street is an extremely good part of Halifax for getting around by car. It is a rather short drive to the closest highway from anywhere in this neighbourhood, and it is very convenient to come across a parking spot. However, the public transit service in North Street is not very frequent. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most houses. Bicycling is occasionally challenging in North Street as bicycling is made strenuous by the often steep terrain, and there are few bike lanes. Many of the houses for sale in this part of the municipality are located in places that are also not especially convenient for those who travel by foot as few common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

A grocery store is generally accessible within a short walk from any home in North Street. Furthermore, a coffee shop is often just around the corner. As far as education is concerned, parents and their children will appreciate the proximity to daycares and schools, which are within walking distance from the majority of homes for sale in North Street.

Character

The character of North Street is exemplified by its calm ambience. Public green spaces are very well-located and there are a few of them nearby for residents to check out, which makes it easy to access them. This area is very quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic.

Housing

Homeowners occupy around two thirds of the dwellings in the neighbourhood whereas the rest are rented. The substantial proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of this part of Halifax is an important part of its character. Around one third of homes in this neighbourhood were built between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
