Lake Echo

The community of Lake Echo is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

The car is very often the best way to get around in this community. It is especially convenient to park. On the other hand, Lake Echo is not an especially pleasant part of Halifax for travelling by public transit. Nevertheless, the community is served by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is generally around the corner. It is very hard to commute by bike in this area as there are a good number of elevation changes to challenge cyclists, and the cycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive. Lake Echo is also not very suitable for people who travel by foot since most daily needs are nearly impossible to meet without a car.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed to do groceries. There are a few restaurants in this area. Regarding education, parents and their kids will find that wherever their house is situated in Lake Echo, daycares are close by. However, there are only a very small number of primary schools in this part of Halifax and accordingly they can be a very long distance away. In addition, this community does not contain any high schools.

Character

Lake Echo offers a slower-paced ambience. Lake Echo is very quiet overall, as the streets are very peaceful. It is sometimes difficult to get to green spaces within the community since they aren't well-distributed. Still, there are a few parks nearby for residents to visit.

Housing

Around one third of properties in Lake Echo were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1980s and the 1990s. Single detached homes and row houses are the predominant housing type in this community. Homeowners occupy roughly 90% of the properties in the community and 10% are rented. This community is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
