Altamont

Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Altamont is a neighbourhood within West Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Altamont is an extremely good part of West Vancouver for moving around by car. Nearby highways, such as Trans-Canada Highway, are moderately easy to drive to from anywhere in this area, and it is very convenient to come across a parking spot. In contrast, Altamont is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and bus stops are generally very close by. It is challenging for pedestrians to move around in Altamont as very few daily needs can be met without a car. Cycling is also difficult in this part of West Vancouver because there are few bike lanes, and riding is rendered arduous by the typically sloping terrain.

Services

It is a short walk to access daycares and primary schools from most homes for sale in this neighbourhood. However, this part of West Vancouver does not have any high schools. With respect to eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed to do groceries.

Character

The character of Altamont is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. This neighbourhood is good for those who like quiet surroundings, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - however some parts can be quite noisy, especially closer to Trans-Canada Highway or the railway line. Finally, green spaces are very well-spread out and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to check out, making them very easy to get to.

Housing

Altamont did not experience a single construction boom; the construction of new dwellings in this neighbourhood was spread throughout several decades in the twentieth and twenty-first century. The sizeable proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. Around 85% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 15% are occupied by renters. There is a higher proportion of four or more bedroom homes in this neighbourhood.
