Sumas Prairie is a neighbourhood within Abbotsford, British Columbia, which is situated in the Abbotsford - Mission metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is a great transportation option in Sumas Prairie. It is very convenient to access a place to park, and many homes for sale are a reasonably short car ride from the nearest highway, such as sumas way. In contrast, the transit system in this part of the city is not very convenient. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most properties. Cycling is challenging in this part of Abbotsford because Sumas Prairie is home to fairly poor bicycling infrastructure, and there are a good number of hills. Nevertheless, some pleasant sectors for cycling can be found. Sumas Prairie is also not very well-suited for those who like to travel by walking since running day-to-day errands is at times difficult without the use of a vehicle.

Services

There are only a very small number of primary schools in Sumas Prairie and accordingly they can be a very long stroll away. Furthermore, this area does not contain any high schools. Furthermore, there are only a very small number of daycares and thus they can be a very long walk away. As far as eating is concerned, property owners in Sumas Prairie almost always have to turn to a vehicle to reach the nearest grocery store. Nonetheless, it is generally a rather short distance to the closest pharmacy, which can provide some basic food items.

Character

Sumas Prairie offers a slower-paced atmosphere and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. It is easy to reach public green spaces from most locations within the neighbourhood, since there are around 10 of them nearby for residents to relax in, like Delair Park and MacDonald Park. This neighbourhood is also very quiet, as the streets are generally very calm - although that is not the case near Sumas Offramp Way, Trans-Canada Highway or the railway line.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of Sumas Prairie is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood also has quite a good choice of housing size options - there is a higher proportion of four or more bedroom homes in this part of Abbotsford. Homeowners occupy around 70% of the properties in Sumas Prairie while the remainder are rented. This neighbourhood did not experience a single building boom; the construction of new buildings in this neighbourhood was spread throughout multiple decades in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
