Little Italy

The neighbourhood of Little Italy can be found in the city of Montréal, Quebec, which is situated in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

Little Italy is an excellent part of Montréal for eco-friendly transportation options. The public transit network in this area is excellent thanks to 2 rapid transit stations (Beaubien Station and Station Jean-Talon 2) with access to the Ligne 2 - Orange, and around 10 nearby bus lines. This neighbourhood is also an extraordinarily convenient part of Montréal for pedestrians; all daily errands can be run on foot, and numerous businesses are very close by. Little Italy will appeal to physically active house buyers since it is especially suitable for bicycling. For instance, cyclists do not encounter serious elevation changes, and there are a good number of bike lanes.

Services

In Little Italy, parents and their kids will usually be able to get to schools and daycares by walking. As far as eating is concerned, a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in this area. Rue Beaubien is among the best streets for food stores. Likewise, those who appreciate dining out won't have to go far in Little Italy, where over 50 restaurants and a few cafes are available.

Character

Little Italy has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. There are a large number of things to do in this area to explore. There is a wide variety of entertainment venues, there are very often crowds of people around, and places to go out at night are well-spread throughout the neighbourhood. Little Italy is fairly good for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour, although that is not the case closer to the railway line. There is a small amount of greenery in this part of the city; more specifically, residents will find that the tree canopy coverage for a lot of streets is sub-par. Nonetheless, public green spaces are especially well-situated and there are a few of them nearby for residents to explore, which makes it very easy to reach them.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing roughly 85% of dwellings in Little Italy, while the rest are mainly duplexes. Most housing in this area was constructed prior to the 1960s, during its biggest construction boom. This neighbourhood offers mainly two bedroom and one bedroom homes. Around 70% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters while the remainder are occupied by owners.
