Westfort

Westfort is a neighbourhood within Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Thunder Bay metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent mode of transportation in Westfort. Parking is quite easy. However, the public transit system in Westfort is not very practical. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is usually a short walk away. It is impractical for pedestrians to navigate Westfort since very few daily errands can be run without the use of a car.

Services

Families may find it difficult to reach high schools and primary schools as pedestrians. Additionally, daycares are not very numerous and consequently not always within walking distance. With respect to food, some home buyers in Westfort may be able to reach the closest grocery store on foot, while others will have to rely on another means of transportation. Residents are served by about 20 restaurants and coffee shops as well.

Character

The noise levels in Westfort are reasonably low, as the streets are generally calm - although that is not the case around one of the railway lines.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing the majority of dwellings in Westfort, while small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood offers mainly two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 70% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 30% are rented. Most of the housing growth in this part of the city occurred pre-1960.
