Corkery

The neighbourhood of Corkery is part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, which is situated in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

The car is usually the favoured approach to get around in Corkery. Finding a place to park is quite easy. Cycling is challenging in this neighbourhood since there are very few bike lanes, and the area is not particularly flat. Walking is also not very convenient for residents in Corkery as almost no common errands can be run without the use of a car.

Services

There are only a very small number of primary schools in Corkery and consequently they can be a very long walk away. Likewise, this part of the city does not contain any high schools. In addition, daycares are not plentiful and therefore not always within walking distance. In terms of food, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is required to buy groceries.

Character

Corkery is quiet, as the streets are usually tranquil - however some parts can be quite loud, especially near Highway 417 or Highway 7. Parks are distributed sporadically, which makes them very difficult to reach from many locations in the neighbourhood. Still, there are over 50 public green spaces nearby for residents to enjoy, like Rick Lytle Park.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of Corkery is an important part of its character. This part of Ottawa is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy nearly 90% of the units in the neighbourhood whereas the rest are rented. Roughly one third of properties in this part of the city were built after the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s.
