Beaton

The neighbourhood of Beaton is part of the city of Oshawa, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is a great mode of transportation in Beaton. The majority of the street network is well suited for driving, and it is very convenient to park. However, commuting by public transit is difficult in this neighbourhood. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily very close by. Although a few pleasant pockets for bicycling exist, the bike is a fairly poor mode of transportation in this part of Oshawa because the cycling network is not very comprehensive, and the topography is not particularly flat. Getting around as a pedestrian is also not very convenient for house buyers in this part of the city since running day-to-day errands is at times difficult without the use of a car.

Services

In all cases, a vehicle is required to buy groceries. With respect to education, Beaton does not contain any high schools or primary schools. Furthermore, daycares are not abundant and thus tend to require a very long trip to get to.

Character

There is a great variety of green spaces in Beaton. It is easy to reach parks, since there are a few of them nearby for residents to check out and many properties have a park around the corner. Lastly, this part of the city is a wonderful neighbourhood for those who aren't bothered by a little noise, as traffic can occasionally be loud during rush hour.

Housing

About two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and the rest are renters. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing roughly half of dwellings in this area, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings and duplexes. Around 30% of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1990s. This part of the city has a good selection of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
