Transportation

The bicycle is a good means of transportation in Alcan because there are a limited number of elevation changes. It is also convenient for people travelling on foot to navigate Alcan; most daily needs are easy to meet without the use of a vehicle. This neighbourhood is not particularly transit friendly. Thankfully, there are about 10 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and the nearest bus stop is usually very close. In contrast, driving is an excellent transportation option in this part of the city. It is a short car ride to the nearest highway, such as Highway 401, from anywhere in Alcan, and it is very easy to park.

Services

In this neighbourhood, families will generally be able to access primary schools and daycares by walking. On the other hand, families may find it difficult for their kids to reach high schools on foot. With respect to food, it is usually practical for house buyers in Alcan to purchase groceries by walking. Furthermore, a coffee shop is often just around the corner, and residents of this area benefit from approximately 20 restaurants as well.

Character

Alcan offers a great variety of green spaces to enjoy, despite its sometimes busy ambience. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of one bedroom and two bedroom homes. Nearly 90% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters whereas the remainder are occupied by owners. About 30% of properties in this part of Kingston were built following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
