Ancaster

Located in the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area, Ancaster is a former municipality within Hamilton, Ontario.

Transportation

The car is very often the best method of transportation in this former municipality. The majority of real estate listings are a rather short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Lincoln M Alexander Parkway, and it is especially convenient to access a place to park. However, travelling by transit can be very difficult in Ancaster as a result of the service's low frequency. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines crossing the former municipality. Walking is not very convenient for residents in Ancaster because carrying out daily needs is challenging. The bicycle is a rather limited method of transportation in this area since there are a fair number of slopes, and the bicycling network is not very well-developed.

Services

Property owners in Ancaster usually have to rely on a vehicle to do their grocery shopping. A limited number of restaurants are available in this area as well. As far as education is concerned, there are only a few high schools and primary schools in Ancaster and accordingly they can be a rather long walk away. Likewise, families may consider it challenging to reach daycares as a pedestrian.

Character

Ancaster is reasonably quiet, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case closer to Highway 403, Lincoln M Alexander Parkway, the railway line or the airport (YHM). It is sometimes challenging to access parks within the former municipality since they are distributed sporadically. Still, there are over 300 parks close by for residents to relax in.

Housing

The predominant housing types in Ancaster are single detached homes and townhouses. The homes in this area are relatively new, because roughly one third of its dwellings were built after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This part of Hamilton is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy nearly 90% of the properties in Ancaster whereas the remainder are rented.
