West Shore

The neighbourhood of West Shore is part of the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

This part of the city is an extraordinarily good part of Pickering for driving. Accessing a place to park is generally easy, and most homes for sale are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 401. However, travelling by transit can be difficult in this area due to the service's low frequency. Nevertheless, homeowners have access to a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically just around the corner. West Shore is not very cycling-friendly since there are few bike lanes, and there are a good number of elevation changes for cyclists to brave. Nonetheless, riding a bike is more feasible in some areas than others. Walking is also not very convenient for property owners in this part of Pickering because few common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

Primary schools and daycares are convenient to access on foot from any location in West Shore. In contrast, this part of Pickering does not contain any high schools. As far as food is concerned, a fraction of property owners in West Shore may be able to reach the nearest supermarket on foot, while others will have to turn to another means of transportation. A limited number of restaurants can be found in West Shore as well.

Character

West Shore is a good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced ambience. Parks are easy to access and there are a few of them close by for residents to discover. This part of the city is quiet overall, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - however some areas can be quite loud, especially around Highway 401 or one of the railway lines.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing about 70% of buildings in West Shore, and the remaining dwellings are mainly townhouses. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 90% of the dwellings in West Shore whereas the rest are rented. This neighbourhood experienced its most significant construction boom between 1960 and 1980, so most of the available housing stock is from this era.
