Farewell

Part of the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area, Farewell is a neighbourhood within Oshawa, Ontario.

Transportation

This area is very car friendly. Parking is easy, and most homes for sale are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 401. On the other hand, commuting by transit can be difficult in Farewell by reason of the low service level. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses. Farewell is rather bike-friendly. In contrast, getting around as a pedestrian in this area is not very common, although many daily errands can be run without needing to resort to a car.

Services

Schools and daycares are convenient to access on foot from anywhere in Farewell. When it comes to food, getting to the closest supermarket without needing a car is practical for some, but not all, home buyers in this part of the city. There are also a limited number of opportunities for those who value restaurants within walking distance.

Character

A highlight of Farewell is its great variety of green spaces. There are about 10 parks close by for residents to unwind in and they are very well-situated, which makes it very easy to get to them. It is relatively quiet in this part of Oshawa, due to the presence of very few people out and about on the streets.

Housing

In Farewell, about half of dwellings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings and duplexes make up most of the remaining housing stock. Roughly one third of homes in this part of Oshawa were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1990s. This area has a good selection of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the rest are renters.
