Basinview

The neighbourhood of Basinview is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Basinview is especially car friendly. Nearby highways are very easy to access from anywhere in this neighbourhood, and it is straightforward to park. In contrast, Basinview is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, property owners have access to a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally around the corner. Many of the homes for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are not very convenient for people who travel as pedestrians since very few common errands can be run without the need to get in a car. Cycling is also at times challenging in Basinview since there is a significant amount of hills, and the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive.

Services

Parents and their schoolchildren will welcome that no matter where their home is located in this part of the municipality, primary schools and daycares are close by. In contrast, Basinview does not have any high schools. Concerning eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed to buy groceries.

Character

People who prefer a slower-paced environment will enjoy Basinview. A large number of locations in the neighbourhood have good access to parks, like Bedford Barrens, since there are a few of them close by for residents to visit. This part of Halifax is also especially quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing the majority of dwellings in Basinview, whereas the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings and townhouses. About 40% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1980s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s. This area offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly 80% of the properties in Basinview and 20% are rented.
