Basinview

The neighbourhood of Basinview is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Basinview is very car friendly. It is very convenient to park, and most homes for sale are a short drive from the nearest highway. However, the public transit service in Basinview is not very frequent. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far away from most properties. This neighbourhood is not particularly amenable to cycling as Basinview is home to rather limited cycling infrastructure, and there is a considerable amount of elevation changes. Basinview is also not very well-suited for pedestrians because very few common errands can be run without the need to use a vehicle.

Services

In Basinview, parents and their kids will generally be able to access primary schools and daycares without a vehicle. On the other hand, this part of Halifax does not contain any high schools. With regards to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required in Basinview to reach the nearest supermarket.

Character

Basinview offers a relaxed atmosphere and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. Most areas in this part of the municipality are very quiet, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, parks, including Bedford Barrens, are especially well-distributed and there are a few of them nearby for residents to explore, which makes it easy to access them.

Housing

In Basinview, around 60% of buildings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This area offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 80% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and the remainder are renters. About 40% of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1980s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s.
