Situated within the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Rutledge is a neighbourhood in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Travelling by car is straightforward in this part of the municipality. It is very convenient to access a parking spot, and nearby highways are fairly easy to drive to from any location in Rutledge. In contrast, this area is not an especially convenient part of Halifax for travelling by public transit. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. Commuting by bicycle is at times challenging in Rutledge because cyclists are faced with a considerable amount of hills, and the cycling infrastructure is not very extensive. Rutledge is also not especially suitable for those who prefer to travel as pedestrians because few day-to-day errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

A car is almost always needed in Rutledge to reach the nearest grocery store. Nevertheless, pharmacies are generally convenient to access without the need for a vehicle and sell some basic food items. In terms of education, parents and their children will welcome that no matter where their home is located in this neighbourhood, daycares and primary schools are nearby. However, Rutledge does not contain any high schools.

Character

The character of Rutledge is exemplified by its relaxed atmosphere. There are a few green spaces close by for residents to discover, like Bedford Barrens, and they are especially well-spread out, which makes it easy to access them. This part of Halifax is also very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour.

In Rutledge, most buildings are single detached homes, and the remaining dwellings are mainly small apartment buildings. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 30% of homes in this area were built in the 1980s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
