Rocky Lake

The neighbourhood of Rocky Lake is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Travelling by car is very easy in Rocky Lake. Parking is easy, and it is a reasonably short car ride to the closest highway from any home in this area. However, Rocky Lake is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, residents benefit from a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally just around the corner. Rocky Lake is not very bicycling-friendly as there are a fair number of slopes for cyclists to brave, and the bicycling infrastructure is rather limited. Most houses for sale in this part of Halifax are located in areas that are also not especially well-suited for walking as meeting daily needs is occasionally difficult.

Services

Both primary and secondary schools are easy to walk to from anywhere in Rocky Lake. On the other hand, parents may find it difficult for their schoolchildren to access daycares on foot. As far as food is concerned, home buyers in Rocky Lake will welcome that a grocery store is always only a reasonably short walk away. A small variety of restaurants can be found in Rocky Lake as well.

Character

The character of Rocky Lake is exemplified by its calm atmosphere. This area is very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, parks are especially well-situated and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, resulting in them being easy to access from a large number of locations within this part of Halifax.

In Rocky Lake, roughly 80% of dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. About one third of properties in this part of Halifax were constructed between 1980 and 1990, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1990s. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around three quarters of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners whereas renters occupy the remainder.
