Transportation

Porters Lake is an extremely convenient part of Halifax for travelling by car. It is especially convenient to come across a place to park, and the majority of real estate listings are a rather short car ride from the nearest highway. On the other hand, the public transit service in Porters Lake is not very frequent. Thankfully, the community is served by a few bus lines, and it is straightforward to get to a nearby bus stop from most houses. Travelling on foot is not very convenient for property owners in this part of the municipality because running common errands is difficult by walking. The bike is a fairly poor means of transportation in Porters Lake because there is a considerable amount of elevation changes, and the bicycling infrastructure is quite bad.

Services

Daycares are convenient to access on foot from most homes for sale in Porters Lake. On the other hand, there are only a limited number of primary schools in this part of Halifax and accordingly they can be a long walk away. Likewise, this community does not contain any high schools. In terms of eating, in all cases, a vehicle is required to do groceries. A limited number of restaurants can be found in Porters Lake as well.

Character

The character of Porters Lake is exemplified by its calm ambience. This community is especially quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue. Lastly, there are about 10 public green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, like O'Connell Drive Elementary School Park and Unnamed Park, which makes it easy to reach them from most locations in Porters Lake.

Housing

Roughly 90% of the dwellings in the community are occupied by homeowners and the rest are rented. The housing stock of this part of the municipality is composed primarily of single detached homes and townhouses. The buildings in this area are relatively new, because about 30% of its buildings were built following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This community offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
