Brookvale

Located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Brookvale is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Brookvale is particularly car friendly. It is especially convenient to come across a place to park. A majority of the homes for sale in this part of the municipality are located in areas that are not very conducive to people who get around on foot as meeting daily needs is very impractical without a car. Bicycling is also challenging in this community as there are a good number of elevation changes, and there are very few bike lanes.

Services

House buyers in this part of Halifax almost always have to rely on a vehicle to shop for their groceries. In terms of education, there are only a very small number of high schools in Brookvale and thus they can be a very long distance away. In addition, this area does not contain any primary schools.

Character

The character of Brookvale is exemplified by its calm ambience. Brookvale is great for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Green spaces aren't well-spread out, making them very hard to access.

Housing

Roughly 95% of the properties in the community are occupied by homeowners while the remainder are rented. The substantial percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. The buildings in this community are quite old, since roughly one third of its dwellings were built pre-1960, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s. This community offers mainly two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
