Onslow

Situated in the Greater Truro metropolitan area, Onslow is a community within Colchester Subdivision B, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Cars are a great means of transportation in Onslow. Parking is generally easy, and it is a reasonably short drive to the closest highway, such as Highway 104, from any location in this part of Colchester Subdivision B. Walking is not very practical for residents in Onslow since very few daily needs can be carried out without a vehicle. Bicycling is also very hard in this area as the terrain is not especially flat, and the bicycling infrastructure is quite bad.

Services

Property owners in Onslow almost always have to use a car to access the closest supermarket. When it comes to education, there are only a very small number of high schools in this part of the subdivision of a county municipality and accordingly they can be a very long walk away. Additionally, Onslow does not have any primary schools.

Character

Onslow offers a calm environment. Onslow is quiet overall, as the streets are reasonably peaceful - although that is not the case close to the railway line or Highway 104.

Housing

About 30% of homes in Onslow were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. The large percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character.
