The neighbourhood of Downtown Eastside can be found in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, which is situated in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

Downtown Eastside is an excellent neighbourhood when it comes to getting around without driving. Owing to around 10 nearby bus lines, Downtown Eastside is very transit friendly. Many of the homes for sale in this part of the city are located in places that are also very suitable for walking; running common errands is very easy on foot, and a large number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Riding a bicycle is very embraced in Downtown Eastside as the cycling infrastructure is fairly good, and bike-share stations are seldomly more than a few blocks away.

Services

It is a rather short walk to access both primary and secondary schools from any location in this part of the city. On the other hand, parents and their children may consider it very hard to get to daycares as a pedestrian. With respect to food, a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in Downtown Eastside. In addition, there are about 20 restaurants and a few cafes to benefit from in Downtown Eastside.

Character

Those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and spending time in green spaces will feel at home in Downtown Eastside. There are numerous things to do in this neighbourhood to visit. There is a broad selection of entertainment venues, the streets are almost always busy with people, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink because they are generally located very close by. Public green spaces are especially well-situated and there are a few of them close by for residents to visit, which makes them easy to get to.

Housing

In Downtown Eastside, the majority of dwellings are large apartment buildings, and the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings. This part of the city also has quite a good choice of housing size options; there is a higher proportion of one bedroom homes in this neighbourhood. Renters occupy about 85% of the units in Downtown Eastside while owners occupy the remainder. Around one quarter of homes in this neighbourhood were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
