It is convenient for pedestrians to get around in Sea Island; many common errands can be run on foot, and a good number of businesses of different types can be found as well. This neighbourhood is also a very pleasant part of Richmond for cyclists. In particular, there are a large number of bike lanes. Getting around by transit can be at times difficult in this neighbourhood due to the infrequent service. Nevertheless, rapid transit stations, including Templeton Station @ Platform 2, Templeton Station @ Platform 1 and YVR-Airport Station @ Platform 1 with access to the Canada Line, are not particularly far away from the greater part of houses in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and it is very convenient to reach a nearby bus stop from most properties. However, driving is an excellent transportation option in Sea Island. It is very convenient to find a parking spot.

Daycares are convenient to walk to from anywhere in Sea Island. In contrast, Sea Island does not contain any primary schools or high schools. When it comes to eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed to buy groceries. Nevertheless, pharmacies are generally convenient to get to on foot and sell some staple foods. A restaurant is commonly just around the corner, and there are also a few coffee shops in Sea Island.

Sea Island offers an extensive selection of green spaces to enjoy, despite its sometimes busy ambience. Reaching green spaces is very easy in the neighbourhood, since the majority of homes for sale have one nearby and there are over 100 parks close by for residents to explore. Finally, noise can sometimes be an issue in this area, as traffic during busy hours can occasionally be bothersome.

In Sea Island, about 80% of buildings are single detached homes, whereas the rest are mainly duplexes. Most of the housing growth in this part of Richmond occurred pre-1960. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Around three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder.
