Hammond Bay is a neighbourhood within Nanaimo, British Columbia, which is located in the Greater Nanaimo metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are a very good medium of transportation in this neighbourhood. Accessing a parking spot is generally easy. In contrast, the public transit service in Hammond Bay is not very frequent. Nonetheless, property owners have access to a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is generally very close. It is very difficult for people travelling on foot to navigate this part of Nanaimo because very few daily errands can be run on foot. Hammond Bay is also not especially suited for cycling as there is a considerable amount of slopes, and there are few bike lanes.

Services

Primary schools are not particularly abundant in Hammond Bay, and accordingly often beyond walking distance, and there are no high schools. In addition, there are only a few daycares and consequently they can be a rather long walk away. Concerning eating, home buyers in Hammond Bay almost always have to rely on a car to access the closest grocery store. There are a few opportunities for those who appreciate restaurants within walking distance.

Character

The character of Hammond Bay is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. This area is very quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, the majority of locations in the neighbourhood have reasonably good access to green spaces, including Linley Valley Cottle Lake Park and Planta Park, since there are around 20 of them close by for residents to relax in.

Housing

Around 80% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing about three quarters of buildings in this neighbourhood, while the rest are mainly duplexes. Roughly 40% of properties in this area were constructed following the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. This part of Nanaimo offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
