Sumas Prairie

Situated within the Abbotsford - Mission metropolitan area, Sumas Prairie is a neighbourhood within Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Transportation

Moving around by car is very easy in Sumas Prairie. Many houses for sale are a rather short drive from the nearest highway, such as sumas way, and parking is quite easy. However, the public transit network in Sumas Prairie is not very convenient. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are generally very close by. Sumas Prairie is not very appropriate for cycling because there are a good number of hills, and the bicycling network is not very well-developed. Nonetheless, certain enjoyable pockets for bicycling exist. Walking is also not very practical for residents in this area as few day-to-day needs can be met without the use of a car.

Services

There are only a very small number of primary schools in this part of the city and therefore they can be a very long trip away. Moreover, Sumas Prairie does not have any high schools. Additionally, there are only a very small number of daycares and thus they can be a very long distance away. Regarding eating, shopping for one's groceries very often necessitates the use of a vehicle in Sumas Prairie. Nonetheless, getting to the nearest pharmacy and consequently some staple foods is usually easy.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere will enjoy Sumas Prairie. There are about 10 parks close by for residents to relax in, including Delair Park, resulting in them being easy to get to from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood. This neighbourhood is also very quiet, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - however some areas can be quite loud, especially near the railway line, Trans-Canada Highway or Sumas Offramp Way.

Housing

In Sumas Prairie, about three quarters of dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest of the dwellings are mainly duplexes. Roughly one quarter of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of the city offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 70% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 30% are renters.
