Part of the Greater Québec City metropolitan area, Cité Universitaire is a neighbourhood within Québec, Quebec.

Transportation

This area is transit friendly. More specifically, there are over 50 bus lines, and bus stops are usually nearby. In contrast, Cité Universitaire is not very conducive to bicycling since there are quite a few hills, and there are a limited number of bike lanes. Thankfully, some bike-friendly areas exist. Walking is not very popular in Cité Universitaire, despite the fact that running daily errands is convenient on foot. However, cars are a great means of transportation in this neighbourhood. It is a very short drive to the closest highway, such as Autoroute Charest, from any location in Cité Universitaire, and it is straightforward to park.

Services

A grocery store is ordinarily accessible within a rather short walk from anywhere in Cité Universitaire. Additionally, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner, for example on Chemin Sainte-Foy, and residents benefit from a few cafes as well. With regards to education, it is a reasonably short walk to reach daycares and primary schools from most houses for sale in Cité Universitaire. However, this neighbourhood does not contain any high schools.

Character

Cité Universitaire offers a wide selection of green spaces to enjoy. Green spaces, including Jardin botanique Roger-Van den Hende, are especially well-spread out and there are about 10 of them nearby for residents to check out, which makes it easy to reach them. As there are few pedestrians, this neighbourhood is relatively quiet, although noise levels are higher closer to Autoroute Félix-Leclerc, Autoroute Henri-IV or the railway line.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing around half of dwellings in Cité Universitaire, and the remaining properties are mainly large apartment buildings and single detached homes. This part of the city is primarily composed of one bedroom and two bedroom homes. About 60% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home whereas the rest are owners. About one third of properties in this part of the city were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
