Saint-Nicolas

The neighbourhood of Saint-Nicolas is part of the city of Lévis, Quebec, which is located in the Greater Québec City metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in Saint-Nicolas. Nearby highways, such as Autoroute Robert-Cliche, are very easy to reach from any home in this area, and parking is easy. However, Saint-Nicolas is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, there are around 20 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. Even though riding a bike is more feasible in certain pockets than others, Saint-Nicolas is not particularly suited for cycling since cyclists are faced with a significant amount of elevation changes, and the bicycling network is not very well-developed. Walking is also not very practical for home buyers in Saint-Nicolas because very few common errands can be run on foot.

Services

In this neighbourhood, families will typically be able to get to primary schools on foot. In contrast, there are only a few high schools and accordingly they can be a rather long walk away. When it comes to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed in this neighbourhood to access the closest supermarket. There are also a few opportunities for those who value nearby restaurants.

Character

Saint-Nicolas is an excellent neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed environment. This part of the city is especially quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic around the railway line, Autoroute Robert-Cliche or Autoroute Jean-Lesage. Finally, there are about 20 parks close by for residents to enjoy, including Parc des Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Parc de la Montagne, resulting in them being easy to get to from a large number of locations within Saint-Nicolas.

Housing

In Saint-Nicolas, the majority of dwellings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings are the main alternative in the housing stock. This part of the city is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and the rest are renters. The buildings in this neighbourhood are quite new, since roughly 40% of its dwellings were built following the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
