Transportation

Rivière-des-Prairies is a very good part of Montréal for travelling by car. Nearby highways, such as Autoroute 25, are quite easy to reach from any home in Rivière-des-Prairies, and it is convenient to find a parking spot. However, this part of Montréal is not especially transit friendly. Nevertheless, commuters can rely on the Rivière-des-Prairies Nord, Rivières-des-Prairies Sud and Gare Anjou on the MA | 15 - Mascouche. The neighbourhood is connected by about 20 bus lines, and it is very easy to reach a nearby bus stop from most houses. Rivière-des-Prairies is amenable to cycling. It is at times challenging for people travelling on foot to navigate this area because few common errands can be run without needing to use a vehicle.

Services

It is convenient to get to the closest supermarket by walking in Rivière-des-Prairies. A small selection of restaurants and cafes is available as well. Concerning education, daycares and primary schools are convenient to walk to from any location in Rivière-des-Prairies. In contrast, parents and their kids may find it difficult to get to high schools on foot.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a relaxed environment will enjoy Rivière-des-Prairies. Greenery is not particularly prominent in this part of Montréal; to be more precise, residents will find that there are few tree-lined streets. Nonetheless, most locations in the neighbourhood have good access to green spaces, such as Parc des Cageux and Parc Don-Bosco, since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to explore. This area is also quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case closer to the railway line, Autoroute Métropolitaine or Autoroute Félix-Leclerc.

Housing

About one third of dwellings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Rivière-des-Prairies, but single detached homes and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. Roughly one third of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1980s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s.
