North Riverdale

North Riverdale is a neighbourhood within Toronto, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

No matter the means of transportation, it is very easy to move around in this area. Thanks to a multitude of nearby rapid transit stations on the Line 2 (Bloor - Danforth), and around 10 nearby bus lines, the very good public transit makes transit a viable option for many people. This area is also an extremely convenient part of Toronto for pedestrians; all daily errands can be run without a car, and numerous businesses are close at hand. Bicycling is very embraced in this neighbourhood as bike-share stations are never more than a short distance away, and there are a good number of bike lanes.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in this neighbourhood. Likewise, there is usually a restaurant or cafe in close proximity, for instance on Danforth Avenue. With regards to education, families will value that wherever their house is located in this part of Toronto, schools and daycares are nearby. In addition to public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools.

Character

North Riverdale is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this neighbourhood. Finding vibrant places is easy in this part of Toronto. There is a wide variety of entertainment venues, there are usually crowds of people around, and with its a few bars, there are options for nighttime activities. Danforth Avenue in particular offers a vast selection of places to go out at night. The noise levels in North Riverdale are quite low, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour, although there are still several noisier sections, especially closer to Don Valley Parkway or the railway line. There is a fair amount of greenery in this area; it is very easy to access public green spaces from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to enjoy. Residents will also find that many tree-lined streets are present.

Housing

A majority of the housing growth in North Riverdale occurred pre-1960. Roughly 30% of buildings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in this area, while large apartment buildings, single detached homes, and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. About 60% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 40% are rented. This neighbourhood has a good selection of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
