Downsview Airport

Downsview Airport is a neighbourhood within Toronto, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Downsview Airport is home to a great public transit system due to a multitude of nearby rapid transit stations with access to the Line 1 (Yonge-University), and about 20 nearby bus lines. In contrast, travelling by foot in Downsview Airport is not very popular, although many daily needs are easy to carry out by walking, and various businesses are reasonably close by. Moving around by bicycle is practically impossible in Downsview Airport since the cycling network is not very well-developed. Nevertheless, a few pleasant pockets for bicycling exist, and cyclists do not encounter significant hills. This part of Toronto is very car friendly. It is convenient to park, and most homes for sale are a very short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Allen Expressway.

Services

It is a rather short walk to access daycares and schools from any location in Downsview Airport. When it comes to eating, getting to the nearest supermarket on foot is possible for some, but not all, property owners in this part of the city. On the other hand, there are a fair number of choices within walking distance for those who value restaurants and cafes.

Character

There are a lot of green spaces to enjoy in Downsview Airport. To be more specific, it is easy to get to parks from a large number of locations in the neighbourhood since there are a few of them nearby for residents to explore. At the same time, the tree canopy coverage for numerous streets is fairly bad. Finally, this area can be rather noisy, as traffic can occasionally be loud during busier hours of the day.

Housing

Most of the housing growth in Downsview Airport has happened following the year 2000. Around one third of dwellings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in this neighbourhood, while large apartment buildings, duplexes, and single detached homes are the main alternatives in the housing stock. Homeowners occupy about 60% of the properties in Downsview Airport whereas the rest are rented. This area has a good variety of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
