Westlane

Situated in the St. Catharines - Niagara metropolitan area, Westlane is a neighbourhood within Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Transportation

Driving is very often the best way to get around in this part of the city. Nearby highways, such as Highway 420, are moderately easy to reach from anywhere in Westlane, and parking is generally easy. However, this area is not an especially pleasant part of Niagara Falls for moving around by public transit. Thankfully, there are approximately 10 bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. Westlane is not particularly bicycling-friendly because the cycling network is rather poor. Thankfully, the topography is flat, and a few bike-friendly areas can be found. It is also at times difficult for people walking to move around in Westlane since carrying out daily needs is sometimes challenging without the use of a car.

Services

Some house buyers in this neighbourhood may be able to reach the nearest grocery store by foot, while others will need a vehicle. There are also around 20 restaurants and coffee shops in Westlane. As far as education is concerned, in this part of the city, parents and their children will typically be able to access daycares and schools by walking.

Character

Westlane offers a relaxed environment and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time in green spaces. The noise levels in this area are reasonably low, as the streets tend to be quite peaceful - however noise can be an issue close to Queen Elizabeth Way, Highway 420 or one of the railway lines. Finally, many locations within the neighbourhood have good access to public green spaces, such as Warren Woods Trail Lands and Charnwood Park, since there are about 10 of them nearby for residents to check out.

Housing

About 30% of properties in Westlane were built following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s. In this part of Niagara Falls, most dwellings are single detached homes, but small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. Homeowners occupy around 70% of the units in the neighbourhood and the remainder are rented. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
