Glendale

Glendale is a neighbourhood within Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, which is situated in the St. Catharines - Niagara metropolitan area.

Transportation

Glendale is an extremely good part of Niagara-on-the-Lake for moving around by car. It is very easy to find a place to park, and the majority of homes for sale are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, such as Highway 405. In contrast, travelling by transit can be very hard in Glendale by reason of the low service level. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines. Glendale is not very well-suited for walking as very few daily errands can be run without the use of a car. The bike is a sometimes poor method of transportation in this area because the bicycling network is not very comprehensive, and there are a good number of hills to challenge cyclists.

Services

This neighbourhood does not contain any high schools or primary schools. Moreover, it can be very hard to get to daycares as a pedestrian. When it comes to food, it is very rarely feasible for home buyers in this part of the town to access the nearest supermarket on foot. Residents of Glendale can enjoy a few restaurants as well.

Character

Glendale offers a slower-paced environment and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time outdoors. Parks are easy to get to and there are a few of them nearby for residents to visit. This neighbourhood is quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several noisier areas, especially close to the airport (St. Catharines/Niagara District Airport), Queen Elizabeth Way or Highway 405.

Housing

In Glendale, many buildings are single detached homes, while townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood has taken place after the year 2000. This area is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 80% of the properties in the neighbourhood and the remainder are rented.
