North Gower

North Gower is a neighbourhood within Ottawa, Ontario, which is located in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

The car is usually the best approach to move around in North Gower. It is very convenient to find a place to park. On the other hand, public transit users may have few options in North Gower by reason of the infrequent service. Thankfully, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and most homes are very close to a bus stop. This part of Ottawa is not very convenient for walking as almost no common errands can be run without having to use a car. North Gower is also not very bike-friendly because the cycling infrastructure is not very well-developed, and there are a fair number of elevation changes to challenge cyclists.

Services

There are only a limited number of primary schools in North Gower and therefore they can be a long walk away. Likewise, this part of Ottawa does not have any high schools. Furthermore, it can be very hard to get to daycares as a pedestrian. At the elementary level, both public and private schools can be found. When it comes to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed to buy groceries.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a slower-paced environment will enjoy North Gower. It is easy to reach public green spaces from most locations within the neighbourhood, since there are around 20 of them close by for residents to enjoy and the majority of properties have a park around the corner. This part of the city is also fairly good for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several louder areas, especially closer to Highway 416 or the airport (Rideau Valley Air Park).

Housing

Nearly 90% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and 10% are rented. Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in this neighbourhood. Around 30% of properties in this part of the city were built between 1960 and 1980, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
