Fitzroy

The neighbourhood of Fitzroy is part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, which is located in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

Fitzroy is especially car friendly. It is very easy to access a parking spot. Travelling on foot is not very practical for residents in Fitzroy since almost no common errands can be run without having to use a car. On the other hand, this area is reasonably bicycling-friendly.

Services

Getting to the nearest supermarket by walking is feasible for some, but not all, home buyers in this part of Ottawa. Residents of this part of the city are served by a few restaurants as well. In terms of education, there are only a few primary schools in Fitzroy and thus they can be an extended walk away. In addition, Fitzroy does not contain any high schools. Likewise, there are only a very small number of daycares and accordingly they can be a very long walk away.

Character

Most areas in Fitzroy are very quiet, as the streets are especially tranquil. Parks are sparse, which results in them being rather difficult to reach from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood. Still, there are a few public green spaces nearby for residents to relax in, including Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre and Campbell Bicentennial Park.

Housing

In Fitzroy, the overwhelming majority of dwellings are single detached homes, while the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. About one quarter of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of the city offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 95% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 5% are renters.
